Back from Mosquito Lagoon with Captain Nathaniel Lemmon- Dawn Image by Jan Maizler
Captain Ken Collette and I had a superb time today with Captain Nate. I'll be reporting on this quite soon for CyberAngler. Lots of large reds and trout were seen as well as caught and released.
We also had the thrill of a lifetime when we witnessed the landing of the space shuttle. It began with the massive blast of a sonic boom and morphed into a silvery object plunging from the heavens that finally arced gracefully into its' landing pattern.

Anglers’ Magazine Use Still Notable, but Internet Dependency Rises.
In 2008, Anglers, Hunters, and Shooters were asked which media they prefer for fishing, hunting, or shooting information. Magazines were proved the most popular media choice for Angler information, according to last year’s AnglerSurvey results. In 2009, websites increasingly became the most popular means for Angler entertainment and information, with Hunters still relying on primarily on magazines.
According to the June 2009 HunterSurvey.com, magazines continued as the primary source by Hunters with 49.9%; risen from 46.7% in 2008. However, the recent AnglerSurvey.com results show internet to be the most popular information and entertainment source, with 41.9%; risen from 33.6% in 2008- an 8.2% increase.
Although Anglers’ majority preference shifted in 2009 from magazines to websites, magazines still remain the next best alternative, with 32.5%; from 38.5% in 2008. Although Hunters mostly preferred magazines, internet choice remains in 2008, at 26.1%, and in 2009, at 26.9%, the second most commonly used means.
AnglerSurvey.com, HunterSurvey.com and TargetShootingSurvey.com help the outdoor equipment industry, government wildlife and fisheries officials, and conservation organizations track consumer activities and expenditure trends. The information above represents only a small sample of the vast amount of data that is available from the complete survey results. The results are scientifically analyzed to reflect all U.S. sportsmen and women.

Bedazzled by 'Pooners.....
This friday, the weather was spot-on and so was the fishing. I released 4 tarpon ranging in size from 20 to 40 pounds. The bite was early and brief, a pattern that's all too common as we slog through the pulsing heat of High Summer.

Bedraggled by Boomers....
This mornings' tarpon quest came to a screeching halt from 5 a.m to 7 a.m. as a huge ferocious squall line of gale force winds, thunder and lightning raked coastal Miami. At 7:15, another band of blackness marched northward, the wind picked up to around 30 knots, but the sky lightened to a ubiquitous gray blanket. I left the dock, edged up the ICW and turned into one of my "protected" spots- as if anything is ever really protected.
I found the tarpon making quick rolls into and across the wind-riffled surface. But it was the kind of "one here, one there" rolling that spells no soap and that's just what happened- nary a strike on bait or lures. The wind would stop at times and I'd sweat into the humid atmosphere and all over myself. Then the wind picked up and I donned a jacket in the cold stiff breeze under a sky with a sun that was merely a suggestion.
No consolations of "it was good just to get out" worked-nor will they ever. I ended the day by noon just plain wet and tired. A hot shower and an ice-cold Diet Coke did the trick as I continue to wrap up a story on Captain Ralph Allen and the fabulous Punta Gorda fishing. That super trip cancels today and then I'll dream of distant shores.
