Every Tarpon has a Silver Lining....

The warm weather went wetter with Faye, but no downturn effects on the tarpon fishing from one of the most persistent -okay, steering currents!- tropical storms in recent Florida history.

It's really only a matter of finding the current tarpon spot in Miami, since this species has become present on a year-round basis. Just think about water temps over 75 degrees and the right locale almost suggests itself.

I had a great morning with 4 fish from 20 to 40 pounds released, and another 5 or 6 strikes. Two big hints are that firstly, tarpon often feed in congregate bursts; and during those times still retain definite profile and taste preferences. Secondly, watch the speed and arc of their rolling to determine their position in the water column. When in doubt, think midsurface to bottom.
